Long Loan Rules
METU Academic staff can borrow up to 25 books for 30 days. Students can borrow up to 15 books for 15 days. Administrative and retired staff can borrow up to 15 books for 30 days. Please see Article 4/b of the Library Instructions for the rules of who may borrow which books, and for how long. Members must show their ID cards when they are checking out the materials.

Short Loan Rules (Reserve Collection)
Academic/administrative staff and students can borrow materials from the Reserve Collection according to the type and the loan period of the source (i.e. type A for 2 hours and overnight after 04:00 pm; type C for three days; type D for a week.)
- All METU faculty, staff and students are eligible to borrow books from the Reserve Collection. All users must present a METU ID card, with a current year validation, in order to borrow books.
- You may borrow 2 items at any one time.
- Items cannot be renewed.
- Reserve items must be returned directly to the Reserve Desk.
- Late return of Reserve material will incur fines. The fine is 50 Kr per hour.
- Reserve materials may not be held for users. Access to Reserve materials is provided on a first-come, first-served basis. Desk attendants cannot take reservations or hold materials.
- The Reserves Request Form can be used by METU Academic personnel only.

Inter-University Loan Rules (Protocol)
Faculty members may borrow directly from Bilkent, Hacettepe, Ankara, Gazi, TOBBETU, Atılım university libraries and MTA, TODAİE libaries through the Inter-University Borrowing Project.
Eligibility: METU full-time faculty members
Borrowers' Responsibilities:
- To obtain a protocol form at METU Library, you must apply in person,
- Bring your ID card to the Circulation Desk.
- A maximum of 5 books may be borrowed at once, and they may be kept for 30 days. Borrowed books may be renewed only once.
- Reference resources, periodicals cannot be borrowed by protocol.
- This form should be submitted to university libraries within 10 days of its being taken from METU Library.
- This form must be renewed 3 times a year (March 1st, July 1st, October 1st).
- Borrowers are responsible for the safe and timely return of materials to the lending library.
- Borrowers are responsible for returning materials to the library from which they were borrowed.
- The Faculty Borrower, and not METU Library, is responsible for any and all fines and other charges incurred.

ILL - Inter-Library Loan Rules (For METU Academic Staff)
Eligibility: METU full-time faculty members, administrative staff.
Borrowers' responsibilities:
- Before making an ILL request, please be sure the items you are looking for are not available in the Library.
- Periodicals, rare books, short loan books, reference resources, and audio visual materials may not be borrowed by ILL.
- METU academic staff who would like to borrow books from the other academic libraries should apply to the ILL librarian by e-mail.
- Loan periods, maximum numbers of books, and maximum times of renewals vary by libraries.
- You will be notified by telephone or e-mail when the item arrives. The notification will specify where and when you can pick up the item.
- The borrower, not METU Library, is responsible for any and all fines and other charges incurred.

ILL - Inter-Library Loan Rules (For university libraries and government research institutes libraries)
Eligibility: University libraries and government research institutes.
! Interlibrary loan requests are accepted from libraries only.
Borrowers' responsibilities:
- Before making an ILL request, please be sure the items you are looking for are available in the METU Library. If an item has a DUE date in the library catalog, it means the book has been borrowed and you can make an ILL request after it's status becomes AVAILABLE.
- Books with one of the ML Serials, ML Reference Collection, MS Collection, EDC Collection, MSI Collection, NCC Collection, ML Reserve Collection or ML Rare Collection notes in the "Location" area of the library catalog, audio-visual materials and electronic resources can not be borrowed by ILL.
- Researchers who would like to borrow books from METU Library by ILL, need to contact the ILL librarian in their institution. The ILL Book Request Form must be filled and submitted by responsible librarian, appropriately.
- Academic and research libraries may borrow a maximum of 3 books at a time for 30 days per reader. The maximum number of books an institution may borrow is 25 in total.
- Borrowed books may not be renewed.
- If there are any late books from a particular institution, new requests will not be processed for this institution. Any libraries with more than 10 days overdue of a book may not borrow any books during the following semester.
- 0.25 Kr per day are charged as a fine for each overdue book. Fees for overdue books must be remitted to the following bank account: TC Ziraat Bankası - ODTÜ Şubesi - 1537-8965428-5006. Please send us the bank slip by e-mail. In case an institution has more than 25 TL in its account, this institution may not borrow any books until it pays its fine in full.
- Overdue notices are sent by our automation system by e-mail, automatically. If the library doesn't return the overdue book(s) despite notices, the book(s) will be regarded as lost, and the library may not borrow any more materials until the fine is paid.
- If a book borrowed from METU Library is damaged / overdue / lost (including lost in cargo), the responsibility belongs to the library making the ILL request.
- It is obligatory for our users to accept changes in our rules concerning fines and other rules related to borrowed books.
- Requested books are sent by registered cargo. Borrowed books must be returned by registered cargo. The cost of return shipping is the responsibility of the library making the ILL request.

Periodicals:
Current periodicals cannot be borrowed.
Bound periodicals can be borrowed only by METU academic staff. At most, two bound periodicals can be borrowed for any one week period.

Reference Collection
